Team Haase Racing is home from the Tulsa Shootout after having one amazing week! McKenna spent her winter break traveling to Tulsa, Oklahoma for 10 days to compete with around 930 drivers from 22 states and 3 Canadian provinces with 177 cars in her class. She started off the week strong with a heat race win the first day of the shootout! The qualifier brought some very tough competition and McKenna ended up 7th, causing her to head to the B-Main. In the B she had a mistake on the start and with no cautions, she closed the large gap between 4th and 3rd, caught 3rd, and was closing on 2nd as she met the checkered. Two cars made the transfer out of the B and unfortunately McKenna was one spot away. However, McKenna had one of the best weeks, meeting new friends from 12 of the states there and getting to make some incredible memories with friends and family! Overall this season has been full of great learning experiences and incredible memories and we thank all of you for your continuing support! We hope to see you all at the track next year as we work towards new goals and bigger and better things!

It was officially announced this week at the Performance Racing Industry Show in Indianapolis, Indiana that McKenna was chosen to be a part of the Women's Sports Foundation Women In the Winner's Circle Project Podium Grant Recipient Class of 2014! McKenna is very excited to work with one of her idols and is looking forward to learning a lot and having a great season in 2014! From McKenna, "I'm very honored and very blessed to be chosen to be a part of such an amazing organization working to promote women in racing, and I can't thank Lyn St. James and The Women's Sports Foundation enough for everything!"
New York, NY (December 12, 2013) – The Women’s Sports Foundation (WSF), the leader in promoting sports, health and education for girls and women, recently attended the Performance Racing Industry (PRI) Trade show in Indianapolis, Indiana, to recognize a select group of up and coming racers.
Eight young women were recognized under the new “Women’s Sports Foundation’s Women in the Winners Circle Project Podium Grant,” designed to help young racers overcome the business challenges unique to motorsports. The original project created in 2007, was founded by former president of the Women’s Sports Foundation, Lyn St. James. This project was created to champion young and talented women drivers who compete in all forms of racing, including go karting, quarter midget, drag racing, sports car and oval track racing. St. James, a seven-time Indy 500 and winning sports car racer has worked tirelessly to help promote young women in racing for decades.
“The Women’s Sports Foundation understands the amount of dedication, commitment and focus that it takes for athletes to accomplish their goals and, through Lyn’s pioneering efforts, is thrilled to help enable the success of so many talented women in racing,” said Kathryn Olson, CEO of the Women’s Sports Foundation.
Women racers were encouraged to apply for the Women’s Sports Foundation’s Women in the Winners Circle Project Podium Grant at www.WomensSportsFoundation.org/ProjectPodium for an opportunity to receive matching funds to advance their careers. Following a formal application process and judging selection process lead by Motorsports professionals, eight racers were chosen to receive financial assistance for the 2014 racing season.

“It’s amazing to think that this all began with an idea and a donation from Paul Newman’s Foundation. The applicants were quite diverse and the judges spent considerable time in getting the list down to our final seven drivers. I can’t wait to have greater corporate support to help place more talented women on the podium and into the sport in 2015 and beyond,” noted Lyn St. James.

McKenna had a fantastic weekend at the Race 4 Life in New Richmond, WI! She traveled 580 miles to race 40 cars from 11 states, and after missing the transfer into the A-Main by 1 spot the first night, she pulled off a great heat finish with lots of passing points to lock her into the A-Main on the final night! After avoiding multiple crashes she came from 16th to 10th and met her goal of bringing home a top 10! The team is very happy with this finish as there were a lot of big motor cars here with some great drivers behind the wheels! Not only that, but McKenna was blessed to meet an unfathomable amount of unbelievable families and made memories and friendships that will last a lifetime! The next few weeks for the team will be spent preparing for the Tulsa Shootout in late December! Stay tuned!
